There is a case study where man did indeed become infested with worms after eating a diet of raw beef and pork. Sound scary isn't??
If you eat uncooked meat and fish, there is always a risk. Research has shown that eating raw or undercooked fish can exposed you to various parasitic infestations. There was a case occurred in Africa, where staff and visitors on a house boat travelling in Bostwana ate freshly caught raw beam, a type of fish. They all become severely ill because there was a parasite inside the beam.
It can be very difficult to know if there are worms in your body because the associated symptoms are not specific and can caused by other diseases. Some of the symptoms to look out are diarrhoea, gastrointestinal upset, fatigue, joint pain, vaginal irritation, night time restlessness and teeth grinding, nal itchiness, headache, hair loss and anaemia. Children on the other hand may have difficulty in gaining weight.
Worms not only transmitted through food but also through mosquitoes, fleas and flies, through the air, from pets, from fruits and vegetables, from contaminated water and from walking barefoot on the ground.
To prevent ourself from getting worms is first drink boiled water, Then don't let your pet lick your face, wash your hand after stroking a pet, don't wear outdoor shoes or slipper inside the house, make sure you cook meat thoroughly, wash all your fruits and vegetables, lastly, deworm your pets.
